Exhibitions I visited today

Today I went to several exhibitions. The first one was in Zen Foto Gallery in Shibuya. They showed photos made by amateur photographers before the war, called Japanese Photography of the 1930s. It is a three part show in three different galleries. Very interesting old pictures, but at the end not really my style.

After this one I went to Shinjuku, Epson Gallery, and saw a very interesting show from Kimura Ryoko called 途中下車前途無効. This was a very very interesting show. She took pictures out of the train or on the stations. All shot on 35mm film, but cropped to squares. I really liked this one. It is open until 16th of September. Worth a visit.

After this one, I wanted to go Place M, but while I walked there I found another gallery called Sokyu-Sha where a small show named Angels from Kawahara Chicako. Quite interesting, especially I like the ongoing theme in all the pictures.

Then I went to Place M where they had No Curiosity, No Life showing. Pictures from scientist working in Japan. I really liked the portraits, showing those people in their work environment.

Next stop was Gallery Niépce where another part of the Japanese Photography of the 1930s was showing. This one was more interesting than the one in Shibuya. This one showed photos of flower trains in the 1930s. Part black and white, part after colored. Really interesting, very old japanese.

Last show was in Gallery Totem Pole, and probably the best show from all of them. The photographer is Arimoto Shinya, who is also the owner of this gallery. He showed photos he took back in 2002. Black and white, masterfully exposed, developed and printed. Really very enjoy full. It runs until 12th of September, so quickly go there, really worth the visit.
